Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Tidewater Regional Office is seeking a qualified candidate to supervise a team of groundwater and petroleum remediation program staff. The position will lead groundwater and remediation staff efforts through technical and administrative oversight to ensure that all assigned tasks are completed including petroleum tank case sites are remediated to appropriate risk-based levels and permitted solid waste groundwater reviews are conducted in accordance with program requirements. These tasks also include groundwater reviews for water permits. This position will represent the team to both internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications

Combination of education in hydrogeology, geology or environmental science or the equivalent in knowledge, skills, and experience. Knowledge of federal/state/local environmental laws and regulations. Previous management, leadership, and or supervisory experience desirable.

Additional Considerations

Previous personnel management and/or demonstrated ability to lead teams desirable.
Professional Geologist (P.G.) Certification desirable.
Technical training, groundwater hydrogeology, geology, leaking underground storage tank assessments and remediation, various non-storage tank groundwater reviews, chemistry and knowledge of federal/state/local environmental laws and regulations.
Ability to negotiate and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to read, interpret and properly apply complex policies, guidelines and regulations.
