POSITION SUMMARY:

The School-Based Mental Health Specialist will provide high-quality behavioral health outreach, linkage, consultation and   collaboration between Centennial and school districts. The SBMHS will utilize a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) as a comprehensive framework to support the behavioral and mental health needs of students within Centennial’s 10 county catchment area. The SBMHS will work broadly on systemic issues within schools and school districts as well as work closely with internal and external stakeholders. 

  

LOCATION: 

Remote/Hybrid within 10-County Catchment Area (Logan/Phillips/Sedgwick/Yuma/Washington/Cheyenne/Elbert/Kit Carson/Lincoln/Morgan Counties). Remote Hybrid option available within Sterling, Yuma, or Wray. Travel within Catchment Area required.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide consultation and support to K-12 schools and districts utilizing the Multi-Tiered System of Support: 
    • Tier 1: Mental Health Promotion Services and Supports- Focusing on promoting positive mental health and preventing occurrences of more intensive mental health problems and concerns. 
    • Tier 2: Early Intervention Services and Supports-Focusing on preventing risk factors or early onset problems from progressing. 
    • Tier 3: Intensive and Targeted Services and Supports- Focusing on supporting schools in the development of referral pathways and connection to community or school-based mental health services and/or crisis services.
  • Attend monthly school-based mental health supervision facilitated by the Behavioral Health Administration.
  • Serve as primary contact for school districts and individual schools for referrals, consultations, planning, information and other needed mental health services which are tailored to each district.
  • Work in conjunction with the School-Based Prevention Specialists to coordinate prevention trainings in schools and assist with resource development for additional school-based services.  
  • Work in conjunction with the School-Based Prevention Specialists and school districts to implement on-site consultation, training and support.
  • Complete reporting requirements for applicable funding sources and meetings. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely records consistent with Center standards.
  • Attend Interagency Oversight Group/Collaborative Management Program meetings as a designated proxy for the CEO.
  • Attend trainings, workshops, conferences and meetings that will further the ability to consult in the school setting.
  • Frequently travel to various school districts within Centennial’s 10 county catchment area. Non-traditional working hours may be required to meet the needs of these school districts.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor. 
Requirements

EDUCATION:

Master’s preferred or Bachelor’s level in education or behavioral health related field required.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience working with educators, children and adolescents in the school-based setting 
  • Knowledge and skill sets directly related to prevention, intervention and referral for treatment of school-aged children.
  • Competency working with educators, school administrators and students from various backgrounds.
  • Ability to work closely with community coalitions and collaborative agencies
  • Adjusts flexibly to new situations encountered on a daily basis and has the ability to learn new duties quickly.
  • Maintains a constructive working relationship between and among employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Works effectively both independently and as a member of a team,
  • Works professionally with others, both inside and outside of the organization,

Salary Description $55,600/yr - $69,500/yr
