Job Summary
The Phyllis Jen Center for Primary CareThe Phyllis Jen Center is a large academic primary care practice located on the main campus of Brigham and Women's Hospital. The clinic is home to 40 attending primary care physicians, 70 resident primary care physicians, and approximately 22,000 adult patients. The practice also includes 7 full-time physician assistants serving in a variety of clinical roles. In addition to comprehensive primary care, the clinic is supported by faculty urgent care physicians, Harvard faculty preceptors, multiple full-time embedded social workers, and embedded consulting specialists in endocrinology, psychiatry, geriatrics, pain management, and addiction medicine. This collaborative, multidisciplinary environment is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care while advancing medical education and clinical excellence.
Qualifications
Resident Co-Management PA Position
The Physician Assistant in this resident co-management role partners with a team of approximately 20–25 internal medicine resident physicians to provide comprehensive, longitudinal primary care for a shared adult patient population. Working collaboratively with resident physicians throughout their three-year residency training, the PA helps ensure continuity of care while providing chronic disease management, preventive care, and timely access for acute care needs. In collaboration with resident physicians, preceptors, and the interdisciplinary care team, the PA plays a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a dynamic academic teaching environment. This unique role combines independent clinical practice with close collaboration, allowing the PA to build meaningful longitudinal relationships with patients while supporting the education and development of future primary care physicians.
BWH Primary Care Physician Assistants
Schedule
- Schedule: Monday–Friday 8a-5p; national holidays observed
- 8 half-day clinical sessions and 2 half-day protected administrative sessions for independent completion of inter-visit work, including documentation, patient messages, results review, and care coordination
- Half-day clinical sessions are capped at a maximum of 7 patients per session
- After hours call coverage is provided by remote team weekdays 5p-8a, weekends, and holidays
- Remote inbasket team provides support with patient messages and inbasket coverage for leaves of absences
Structure
- The BWH primary care physician assistant group consists of approximately 50 physician assistants across 13 clinical sites
- All PAs report directly to APP managers
- Engage in quarterly department level APP meetings including educational and social activities
- Structured onboarding and transition to practice support offered

General Job Description
The physician assistant (PA) is a licensed provider who has acquired a broad range of knowledge and skills through the successful completion of a physician assistant program. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.
The physician assistant works under the supervision of an attending physician and reports directly to the physician assistant manager administratively. The PA will perform in accordance with all state and federal regulations and institutional policies including but not limited to the BWH PA Scope of Practice, Prescriptive Guidelines, approved clinical privileges, and BWH PA policy.
