Job Duties

Provide certified expertise, consultation and clinical care to patients with complex wounds and ostomies. Development of a statewide skin prevention and protection management program for patients within VADOC which include EBP for clinical nursing practices and quality metrics. Develop wound care supply list to be utilized statewide. Conduct virtual and in person training sessions quarterly ad as directed by the CNO. Requires travel as directed to facilities statewide with required bi-monthly visits. Have a WOCN (Wound Ostomy Certified Nurse) certification or CWCN (Certified Wound Care Nurse) certification and maintain this while in this job role

This is a full-time position with an annual salary range of $75,161 - $123,264.

Minimum Qualifications

Possess and maintain valid unrestricted Virginia RN license.

Graduation from an accredited Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Education Program (WOCNEP).

Certification from the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) (e.g., CWOCN, CWON).

At minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience.

Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American. Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire

Demonstrated understanding of acute, chronic, and complex wound types; healing physiology; infection indicators; peristomal skin complications; and evidence‑based wound and ostomy treatments.

Knowledge of aseptic procedures, wound cleansing methods, and scope‑appropriate debridement, along with in‑depth familiarity with ostomy pouching systems, skin barriers, leakage troubleshooting, and prevention of peristomal skin breakdown.

Strong understanding of collaborative care planning, interdisciplinary communication, and participation in clinical rounds and conferences.

Knowledge of clinical documentation standards, regulatory requirements, and accurate EHR recordkeeping, as well as familiarity with wound and ostomy supply products, cost‑effective utilization, formulary development, and coordination with supply teams.

Strong clinical assessment skills for evaluating wounds and ostomies, supported by technical proficiency in cleansing, dressing selection, and pouching procedures.

Strong critical thinking, interpersonal skills, empathy, and ability to handle emotionally challenging patient situations.

Effective documentation skills for accurate EHR entries, complemented by clear interdisciplinary communication to collaborate with physicians, nurses, and care teams.

Ability to interpret quality metrics, provide staff education through various learning methods, and manage supplies by monitoring product use and maintaining organized supply lists.

Ability to analyze and improve processes, maintain professional accountability through reliability and responsiveness, and adapt to changing clinical needs in a dynamic care environment.

Additional Considerations

Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN), with a master’s degree.
