Applied Signal Technology: WHO WE ARE

This is an onsite position based out of our Salt Lake City, UT location.

The Principal Lab Engineer plays a critical role in the development of AST products and services.  As a Principal Lab Engineer you will be an integral part of technical service organization that supports program execution. In this role, you will work closely with programs and functional support groups to define and implement organizationally aligned lab environment solutions.  This position will require you to be a thought leader, taking leadership in conceptualizing creative lab area solutions and directing stakeholders, that have conflicting objectives, toward a mutually acceptable implementation of those solutions.

Principal Lab Engineer responsibilities include:

  • Supports site AST customer mission objectives through the development and implementation of lab area plans.
  • Provides leadership to establish and implement unified site lab area plans in conjunction with internal and external customers and service providers.
  • Supports program specific lab area efforts.
  • Provides leadership and management of lab area focused projects.
  • Manages site lab area industry, RTX, and AST compliance efforts.
  • Manages day to day site lab area operations.
  • Mentors staff in lab skills and best practices.
  • Manages site acquisition and allocation of lab resources.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in leadership, development, and execution of lab area projects (requirements, planning, architectures, practices, implementation).
  • Experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of lab area infrastructure and development systems.
  • Experience with the implementation, maintenance, and management of standard lab area practices (ESD, Calibration, infrastructure, equipment, supplies).
  • Exposure to the implementation, management, and maintenance of Windows and Linux network systems.
  • Exposure to Linux, Python, or similar scripting languages.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD TS/SCI or higher clearance
  • Soft Skills (Strong written and verbal communication skills, service focused, self-starter, organized, ability to lead efforts, ability to mentor staff, ability to work independently and collaboratively in team environments).
  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in the absence of a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree or 8 years of relevant experience with a STEM degree.

Security Clearance Qualifications:  

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet TS/SCI eligibility requirements.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to be eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerized systems and virtualized environments
  • Experience with network console servers, IPKVMs and remote management technology.
  • Experience with enterprise grade networking equipment
  • Experience with TCP/IP and UDP network protocols
  • Experience with hand and p
