About the Department
 

The Rebay Lab uses Drosophila as a genetically tractable model system to study how cell fates are specified and organized into functional tissues and organs. Our experimental approach is multidisciplinary, and incorporates molecular genetics, genomics, quantitative imaging, biochemistry, and mathematical modeling. Current projects are focused on transcriptional networks and cellular networks that regulate cell fate transitions and on the signaling mechanisms and tissue-level biomechanical properties that drive morphogenesis. Because the molecular networks we study are conserved all the way to humans, our work has direct relevance to human development and disease.

This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.

Job Summary
 

Conduct cell biological, molecular genetic and genomic experiments in a basic research laboratory. The ability to follow and modify protocols, an eagerness to learn, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively will be required. While responsibilities will include general lab management (ordering supplies, maintaining stocks, making solutions, general lab upkeep, etc.), the primary expectation is an interest in participating in and learning to design and carry out an independent research project. Will participate and present in weekly lab meetings.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.

• Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.

• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (Biology, Chemistry, Math, Computer Science, Physics).

Experience:

• Undergraduate research experience in any area of biology strongly preferred.

• Experience and familiarity with basic laboratory procedures.

​Preferred Competencies

• High organizational ability, careful record keeping, precise usage of instruments and ability to handle multiple tasks.

• Able to read scientific literature and keep abreast of technical development.

• Good manual dexterity with ability to perform fine motor tasks and to exert 10-20 pounds of force with hands.

Working Conditions

• Research lab (Biosafety Level 1 Facility).
