Senior Researcher at Fujitsu's Converging Technology Laboratory (Santa Clara, CA) 

The Converging Technology Laboratory (CT Lab) at Fujitsu specializes in research integrating multiple technical fields to address societal challenges in the increasingly diverse environment. We believe this situation requires a new approach to combine multidisciplinary knowledge including natural science, digital technologies, and humanities. We strive to provide an evidence-based scientific approach to shape public policies and economic activities.

We are seeking a seasoned professional to increase the impact of our research. 

You will independently apply advanced knowledge of scientific research or engineering principles and practices to broad social and environmental areas. As a technical lead or consultant on various projects, you will exhibit creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in conducting research programs. You will devise new approaches to solve complex problems of diverse scope, evangelizing the solutions through rapid prototyping to create engaging touchpoints with tangible results. Strong communication skills are required for interaction with Fujitsu internal business units and external industrial or academic collaboration partners.

Job responsibilities 

  1. As an individual contributor, carry out research on topics including but not limited to developing digital simulations and accurately modeling social and environmental behavior. Apply novel approaches leveraging Machine Learning, Generative AI and Large Language Models. Publish research papers in scientific journals and conferences. Develop patentable ideas to strengthen Fujitsu IP portfolio.
  2. In a supervisory capacity, work as a team with research staff to integrate diverse data types from multi-disciplinary sources into our Social Digital Twin (SDTTM) processing pipeline. Direct and coordinate supporting teams or individuals in their efforts in enhancing the pipeline, from ingestion through transformation to visualization.
  3. In an outreaching role, showcase CT Lab’s work via presentation in talks, conferences, workshops, and competitions. Demonstrate and delineate Converging Technologies’ capabilities in sustainability transformation. Develop peer network to expand technical reach and business development opportunities.
  4. Proof-of-concept.  Using various types of prototyping, to demonstrate values of technologies creation in different stages, and use them to communicate with target audiences.

Requirements 

  1. PhD degree in Computer Science, or in a relevant research area in applying computer science concepts or artificial intelligence to tackle problems in the physical, social, or environmental disciplines. Master’s degree candidates will be considered only with exceptional qualifications and highly relevant experience.
  2. Five or more years’ work experience. Involvement in a fast-paced startup environment a plus. 
  3. Track record of coming up with new ideas or improving upon existing ideas in computing, demonstrated by accomplishments such as publications, patents, projects, or competitions.
  4. Ability to supervise, coordinate and review the work of small staff of engineers, scientists, and software developers.

Fujitsu salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. ​ It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each situation. The pay range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: specific skills, qualifications, experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. The pay range for this position is estimated at $129,407.04 to $184,867.20 USD. Additionally, this role may be eligible for a short-term incentive based on company results and individual performance.
