This is a full-time position located in Houlton.
Core Responsibilities:
As an Accounts Payable Processor I, you will:
• Contribute to the Department's mission by helping the Accounts Payable team make payments for the Aging and Disabled (OADS) clients of DHHS.
• Review payment requests for accuracy and compliance to policy and procedures.
• Write checks based on those payment requests.
• Complete bank account reconciliations.
• File appropriate paperwork timely.
• Work collaboratively with OADS caseworkers.
• Assist team members and perform other accounts payable tasks such as filing, scanning, and organizing records.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, a three (3) year combination of education and responsible accounting or auditing experience -OR- you must have an associate degree in accounting or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution* and one (1) year of accounting or auditing experience.
*Only post-secondary degrees from a college or University whose accreditation has been granted by a nationally recognized accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education will satisfy educational requirements. Foreign degrees must be evaluated by the World Education Services for authentication and U.S. equivalency.
The backgrounds of well-qualified candidates will demonstrate the following competencies:
• Possess good critical thinking skills, be flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced environment
• Basic understanding of Accounting Practices and Controls
• Prior experience and/ or education which demonstrates knowledge of GAAP/ GASB, analyzing accounting data and accounting reconciliations.

Agency information:
The DHHS Financial Service Center is responsible for program accounting, cash management and revenue/expenditure control for the entire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Service Center provides budget and fiscal analysis for many complex areas within DHHS including TANF (i.e. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and MaineCare (formerly Medicaid). The Service Center works collaboratively with senior leadership at State agencies, providing consultative financial and accounting services. Areas of fiscal expertise include compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, statewide budgetary policy, budget development and monitoring, application of generally accepted accounting and financial practices, grant management, financial analysis, cash management, accounting and financial processing, and legislative support.
