Job Description

The Thermal Energy Systems group is looking for a graduate intern to assist with designing and developing system and components for electrical thermal energy storage (ETES) demonstration project. The project is aimed for demonstrating reliable operation of a 100-kWe ETES using high-temperature particles. The work scope will include designing and testing key components and developing techno-economic analysis of the ETES system. Responsibilities under this position including assisting research work on designing, testing, reporting, and publication. Work includes:

  • Design, fabrication, operation of key component of ETES system
  • Validate design methods, operation, manufacturing for product-scale components
  • Validate integrated operation with a turbine generation
  • Develop and test properties of particles at high temperature
  • Technoeconomic analysis of LDES technologies
  • Reporting findings back to the larger project group
  • Write technical reports and contribute to project review meetings
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed conferences and high-impact scientific journals

The candidate will gain experience in developing TES, engineering skills in designing, fabrication, and integration, and interface with a larger team across multiple institutions.

This intern must be able to work 40 hours per week onsite at our Research Support Facility (RSF) on our Golden, Colorado, campus

Basic Qualifications

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Candidates who have earned a degree may work for a period not to exceed 12 months. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
