Collins Aerospace is on the lookout for a talented Principal Software Engineer – Scrum Master to join our Sterling, VA team within the Simulation and Training Solutions (STS) business area. STS develops and builds highly realistic simulators and training systems for military and commercial customers. We utilize cutting-edge technology to deliver highly specialized training for some of the most demanding jobs in aviation. Devices range in complexity from desktop training all the way up to high-fidelity weapon systems and full flight training systems, including full visual motion and simulator interoperability.
We are seeking a self-motivated and passionate individual to lead a software development team on one of our largest DoD training systems programs. The candidate will be a servant leader for the scrum team and ensure that the team succeeds in meeting their goals and objectives each increment. The candidate will demonstrate adept agile leadership, organizational, technical, and communication skills. Proven experience leading software development teams is required. Experience working on complex system-of-systems software development programs for the DoD is a plus. All aspects of the job are done in a classified lab environment and require daily onsite presence. This position is located onsite at our Sterling, VA site. Eligible for relocation.
What YOU will do:
Facilitate the team’s progress toward team goals: Continuously challenges the old norms of development to improve performance in the areas of quality, predictability, flow, and velocity.
Help the team focus on iteration goals in the context of current Program Increment (PI) Objectives. Actively addresses blocking issues to keep flow moving.
Make and influence decisions which impact cost, schedule, and technical performance at a team level.
Decompose features into well-defined user stories and performs software development tasks such as analysis, design, implementation, integration, and testing.
Coordinate agile team meetings and support the product owner.
Support the team by removing blockers, assisting in design decisions, participating in peer reviews, and clarifying story acceptance criteria.
This position is a mixture of agile team leader and individual contributor. At times, the scrum master should expect to take and work their own user stories.
Travel to domestic customer sites to support training events and product installations.
Education & experience:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Skills you must have:
Experience with C++ software application development.
Experience in software technical lead roles.
Agile software development experience.
