Know How
Job Knowledge: The incumbent must be proficient in the basic use of the personal computer.
The incumbent must be proficient in the filing and faxing of laboratory reports.
The incumbent must be familiar with the usage of CPT coding.
Leadership:
The incumbent is responsible for the distribution of laboratory reports to the appropriate people. The incumbent is responsible for the scheduling and collection of industrial drug screens.
The incumbent is responsible for the accurate entry of all Outpatient Orders into the Hospital Computer system.
The incumbent is responsible for the charging and coding of all miscellaneous laboratory charges.
The incumbent is responsible for answering the main laboratory telephone and assisting physician office staff with results reporting, order entry and various other types of customer service issues. The incumbent must be able to determine the types of technical questions which needs referral to the technologist.
The incumbent is responsible for the filing and retrieval of all send out and pathology reports.
Human Relations Skills:
The incumbent interacts daily with patients, hospital personnel, and medical staff. He/She must possess good communication skills.
Problem Solving
The incumbent must be able to sort and determine the most effective ways to insure the appropriate people or areas receive laboratory reports is as efficient a manner as possible. The incumbent must be able to determine the acceptable specimen for laboratory specimens which includes drug screening specimens. The incumbent must be familiar with CPT coding and proficient in the determination of appropriate codes for billing laboratory tests.
Accountability
Freedom to act:
The incumbent takes necessary actions to collect and determine acceptability of Industrial Drug Screen Samples. The incumbent requisitions any supplies needed for the front reception area.
The incumbent answers the department telephone and provides or arranges for the provision of test results to the appropriate persons.
Physical Requirements
The incumbent must be able to stand for extended periods of time. He/she must be able to lift 20 - 30 lbs. occasionally.
Confidentiality, Privacy and Security
Oktibbeha County Hospital will train the incumbent on all aspects of the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). HIPPA training and Certification are requirements of this position. The incumbent will adhere to all security and patient confidentiality rules and regulations mandated by the Federal Government and the State of Mississippi. Upon commencement of employment, the employee must sign a patient Confidentiality and Security Agreement and abide by the Oktibbeha County Hospital Security and Confidentiality, Privacy and Security Policies and Procedures. Failure to adhere to HIPPA Standards, Oktibbeha County Hospital Security and Confidentiality policies , and those set forth by the United States Federal Government, and the State of Mississippi will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
