Job Description

SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students and Deputy Title IX Coordinator, the Assistant Dean of Students, Bloomfield Campus provides leadership for student life matters on the Bloomfield campus and serves as the primary point of contact for triage for the resolution of complex student issues. The Assistant Dean of Students helps students access resources through referrals to campus offices, using discretion and sound judgment. The Assistant Dean manages the Bloomfield CARE team, facilitates and coordinates Title IX reports including support measures, and maintains community standards that promote an inclusive and welcoming campus environment for all. This position provides administrative leadership for student life, including CSLE, Greek Life, new student orientation and supports the student conduct process at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the planning and delivery of a vibrant array of student life experiences beyond the classroom designed to build campus community, cultivate belonging, involvement and engagement, and foster student development at the Bloomfield campus.

  • Oversee the implementation of co-curricular and extracurricular student life programming efforts.

  • Collaborate with campus partners and assist with planning, coordinating and implementing campus programs, including but not limited to Orientation, Welcome Week, SGA advising, and commuter outreach.

  • Represent the Office of the Dean of Students by presenting to students at orientation, attending student organization gatherings, and supporting a wide range of campus-wide events.

  • Supervise the Bloomfield campus Dean of Students Office Program Coordinator and student interns, including delegating and managing tasks. 

  • Act as a conduct hearing officer and serve as an appellate authority for select conduct cases; support student conduct investigations by gathering information and evidence, and compiling reports.

  • Work closely with the Associate Dean of Students on issues involving students of concern.

  • Advise students facing a lack of basic needs among other concerns impacting their experience.

  • Coordinate the review and follow-up of the CARE Team reported concerns to ensure timely and appropriate intervention for students in crisis or experiencing significant challenges.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Title IX reports at the Bloomfield campus; conduct intake meetings with involved students, assists with information gathering, and implement support measures; issue no-contact orders in response to incidents, address student behavioral concerns, ensure follow-up, and facilitate interim suspensions.

  • Assist the Office of the Dean of Students team in crisis and in addressing after hours concerns.

  • Oversee grants related to student engagement and manage coordination as appropriate.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Educational Leadership, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration or related field.

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in a relevant setting.

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience managing professional staff and student employees.

  • Administrative experience with budget development and financial management.
