Environmental Science Student Intern

Job Description

RESPEC is offering a temporary part-time Environmental Science internship in the Mining & Energy Division in our Bozeman, Montana location. The intern will be expected to work 40 hours a week during the summer of 2024 (preferred start date May 20, 2024) with a possibility to work an average of 10 to 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Primary activities include assisting with laboratory biogeochemical testing, water sampling and water quality analysis, and molecular biology. Supplemental activities may involve geochemical and microbial data management and analysis using specialized scripts written in R language, assistance with analytical chemistry methods (e.g., ion chromatography, ion selective electrode, UV-vis spectrophotometry), and the interpretation and discussion of data.

Qualifications:

• Must be working toward a bachelor of science or advanced fields in engineering, chemistry, environmental science, microbiology, geology, or related field
• Computer skills in using spreadsheets and standard office software are required
• Familiarity with R programming language is preferred
• Relevant laboratory experience and safety training is preferred
• Excellent interpersonal skills, be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally, and be self-motivated.

Compensation: Hourly wage depends on education and experience, plus statutory insurance requirements.
