The Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) is a registered nurse whose practice is clinical nursing education and who oversees required education, competency, training, and professional development for the inpatient Operative Services population specific nursing staff at UCLA Health. Encompasses the delivery of clinician (primarily nursing), professional/leadership development, policies, activities, assessment tools, and systems. Promotes excellence in patient care, through skill acquisition in evidence-based nursing practice and clinical inquiry. Collaborates with nursing leadership (Unit Director, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Nurse Managers, and Nursing Professional Development Specialists) to deliver educational programs and secure resources based on needs assessments and adult learning theory. Meets the diverse requirements of the nursing units, patient populations, regulatory and accreditation and strategic goals of the organization/health system.
Salary Range: $124,600 to $289,400 Annually (budget = $135,720 - $197,775 depending on paid professional experience)
Job Qualifications

- CPR: BLS
- Current CA RN License
- MSN in Nursing Education, or Education, or Post-master’s certificate in nursing education
- 3 years of recent acute care experience
- Advanced knowledge of developing and delivering clinical nursing education and training material for orientation, class training and skills/competency learning and leadership development
- Advanced interpersonal skills to participate in the development and delivery of new education and training programs and to develop positive working relationships with nursing staff and leadership
- Advanced organizational and project management skill to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule
