About the Role

The Logistics team is responsible for managing travel and accommodation across our Mining Operations in Central Queensland, Australia. The team currently have an opportunity for a Logistics Officer - Bussing to join their team. The successful candidate will provide effective and consistence support to our Blackwater and Daunia Mine operations. The role will be predominately Brisbane based with site travel as required. Noting requirement of 3 months of onsite training in the Bowen Basin (Monday to Thursday) with a flexible work arrangement on the Friday.

In this role you will:

  • Coordinate bussing travel and accommodation arrangements for the workforce.
  • Support Contract Partners and ensure compliance as per the contract scope. Provide direction in line with the organizational strategy and values.
  • Manage contractor performance to ensure safe, efficient and cost effective service to the business.
  • Ensure the provision of quality customer service to all stakeholders.
  • Balancing bussing requirements  to optimize budget and drive high utilization.
  • Effectively implement the Company’s travel and accommodation policies and guidelines
  • Manage third-party accommodation requirements in accordance with Company policies and guidelines.
  • Streamline People Logistics processes, ensuring the consistent application and/or improvement of processes including system enhancements.
  • Manage accommodation constraints through prioritization and appropriate utilization of assets.
  • Assist in managing and communicating bussing delays and unplanned events to minimize workforce disruptions.
  • Assists Team Supervisor in resolution of escalation for issues and/or complaints related to travel and accommodation arrangements.


Divestment of Daunia and Blackwater Mines

On 18th October 2023, BHP announced that BHP and Mitsubishi Development have agreed to divest the Blackwater and Daunia mines to Whitehaven Coal. Whitehaven will assume operating control of the Daunia and Blackwater mines on completion of the sale, which is expected to occur in Q4 FY24.  Whitehaven will provide an offer of employment to each employee directly supporting the Blackwater and Daunia mines. 

The successful candidate will receive an offer of employment and contract from BMA for the role, and once the role has commenced, they will receive a second contract from Whitehaven on conditions of employment that are no less favourable on an overall basis.

The offer of employment from Whitehaven will start on Legal Day 1 once Whitehaven assumes operating control of Daunia and Blackwater Mines. Until Legal Day 1, BMA will maintain operating control of Daunia and Blackwater Mines.

About You

As the successful candidate you will demonstrate: 

  • Strong knowledge of the resource industry.
  • Good knowledge of SAM / Workflow travel system (or equivalent) is mandatory.
  • Exposure to other logistics management systems within similar industries will be an advantage. 
  • High customer focus and the ability to work under pressure is mandatory. 
  • Ability to adapt to change effortlessly and cope well in a high-paced dynamic environment. 
  • Self-motivator who can drive performance and excellence from your direct reports whilst also providing a safe and collaborative work environment where inclusion and culture are of the utmost importance.
