Summary

This position is at South County Health Center for all areas in the clinic. In this position you will affect the productive and efficient operation of assigned clinic or department through timely and attentive administrative support.  The medical assistant obtains and reviews patients complete medical, social and immunization histories and updates the information in the EHR. The medical assistant rooms patients and obtains needed vital signs and point of care, laboratory testing, notifying the nurse or provider of any abnormalities. Performs age-based screenings. Prepares for upcoming visits by checking for referral or specialty notes, imaging results, test results and refill needs and needed immunizations. The medical assistant will safely administer medications and vaccinations under direct provider and nurse supervision. The medical assistant is an integral part of our team. This position requires strong communication skills and a patient centered approach to care. Must hold medical assistant certification/registration, CPR and complete required workplace trainings annually and other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Experience 

  • Demonstrated success with clear thinking and ability to reorganize as needed.
  • Demonstrated success in working independently, prioritization and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated success in organization abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in computer skills including ability to use computer for scheduling, word documents and reasonable keyboard skills.
  • Demonstrated success in customer service/patient services or working with the general public, preferably in a medical care facility.
  • Demonstrated success in managing difficult customer situations.
  • Significant knowledge of medical practices and procedures in a primary care environment.
  • Demonstrated success and experience with direct patient services (e.g. phlebotomy) and the proper knowledge and use of medical devices and equipment.

Examples of duties

Essential Function Examples

Ability to provide exceptional customer service to a diverse population in a demanding work environment. 


Ability to perform pre and post visit tasks.


Prepare patients for clinical exam/visit, including the collection of typical patient vital metrics (blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, pain level, 

social determinants of health and PHQ2, and other appropriate questionnaires).


Appropriately use basic clinical devices (i. e. pulse oximeter, glucometer etc.)


Provide direct care assistance to provider and coworkers during exams as needed.


Assists with clinical office duties as assigned.


Knowledge and ability to navigate EMR for thorough care documentation.


Ability to properly process and track internal and external referrals to completeness.


Ability to utilize PC in the collection, management, and reporting of patient records.


Provides service in a manner that is appropriate for the patient’s age; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient’s physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs.

 
      Participate in assigned clinical knowledge enhancing and skills review training.
