Description
The successful candidate will work as member of the multi-disciplinary Array Maintenance Group (AMG) in the ALMA Department of Engineering. The successful candidate will report to the Array Maintenance Group (AMG) Supervisor.
The Antenna Transporter Operator and Maintenance Technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the ALMA transporters, custom-designed 130 metric ton hydraulic vehicles capable of lifting, moving and relocating the ALMA 7m/12m radio-telescope antennas. During antenna relocation operations, she/he/they will be assisted by other AMG staff: 1 coordinator, 2 mechanical technicians and 1 electronic technician.
After suitable training, it is expected that the Transporter Operator and Maintenance Technician understands the electro/hydraulic/mechanical processes on which the operation of the ALMA antenna transporters is based as well as the components of the transporter and their function. The role also requires to, read electrical and hydraulic technical drawings, make technical calculations, understand, find and repair malfunctions, and implement relevant maintenance plans.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
�� Operation of the ALMA Antenna Transporters according to the established standards
· Performs mechanical, electrical and hydraulics preventative maintenance
· Be in charge for electrical/electronic transporter maintenance plans, including diagnostic tools
· Recommends changes required to achieve functional requirements of the Transporter or its components
· Ensures functionality of installed components to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions
· Exercises a high degree of initiative and judgment, requiring a broad technical background, in the form of considerable experience (and some on-site education) in the field of work or in closely related fields
· Understands electro/hydraulic/mechanical processes underlying the transporter operation
· Performs diligent diagnosis and highly technical functions, such as maintenance and servicing of Transporters and components, records and reports in English without supervision
· Reports any problems immediately and performs corrective maintenance of Transporter and peripheral equipment, after the repair activity has been defined and agreed
· Tracks stock of spare parts and consumables in a Computerized and Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and issues purchase orders to replenish in a timely manner
· Works with Specialists to define any spare or obsolete parts that may be missing from the current CMMS
· Assists the AMG managers and engineers preparing annual operations budget and follow up of technical contracts
· Proactive compliance with ALMA and government safety policies and procedures in own work area
· Other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Duty Station: The position will be based at the Operations Support Facility (OSF) of ALMA, near San Pedro de Atacama (Region II), working on 8x6 shift basis. Work is typically performed in high altitude conditions (from 2900 to 5000 m) in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions.
· Physical health compatible with high altitude conditions: must pass a High-Altitude Medical Exam for work at high altitude.
· An initial training period will be required for this position.
· Work is typically performed in a mechanical workshop environment, both indoors and outdoors.
· Must be able to operate a personal computer with standard office software.
· Must work near moving mechanical parts and/or electrical equipment.

Requirements
Minimum requirements (must have):
· A technical or professional diploma in electronic or equivalent demonstrable working experience in this specialty.
· Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic systems, hydraulics and/or pneumatics
· Good understanding and implementation of safety regulations and the concept of safety management
· Fluent in Spanish
· English level A2, an English above A2 would be an asset.
· Ability to read technical documentation and write technical reports in English.
Desirable Requirements (an asset if present):
· A driver’s license type D (Chilean nomenclature) is considered an asset
