Job Description

BASIC PURPOSE:

This job is responsible for supporting laboratory operations, performing maintenance functions and completing non-technical routine laboratory procedures under the direction of professional staff. The duties expected will be those of a Sample Accessioning Clerk, assisting and supplementing the work of the Toxicology Laboratory Assistant. The work schedule will be a maximum of 20 hours/week Monday-Friday with some flexibility between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. The expected duration of the position is 6 to 12 months with the possibility of being extended dependent on future needs, funding and workload.

 

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

The functions within this job will vary but may include the following:

·        Intake of biological and physical specimens for laboratory examination.

·        Creates initial laboratory files and specimen inventory for toxicology cases.

·        Maintains sample receiving, chain of custody and inventory records.

·     Maintains a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures.

·        Supplementary clerical duties.

Qualifications;

Ability to lift approximately 40 lbs. overhead. Ability to work in a postmortem environment requiring contact with emotionally difficult information, and absolute confidentiality.  Legible handwriting. Some proficiency with computer database data entry and word processing. Ability to hand write for several hours per day when necessary. Attention to detail and meticulous record keeping. Ability to perform tedious and repetitive tasks. Able to communicate effectively with scientists both verbally and in writing.

 

Education and Experience:  At least one chemistry class at the high school or college level.

Special Requirement

Applicants must be 21 years of age or older with the possession of a valid Oklahoma Drivers License, social security card, and/or US passport.
