Job Duties

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region—and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.

Under the supervision of the Director of Student Life, the Office of Residence Life and Housing, in conjunction with the Office of Student Engagement, seeks an Administrative Assistant to offer essential support in a dynamic, fast-paced setting. Responsibilities include managing housing operations such as assignments, overseeing front desk activities, and supporting student workers. The role also involves facilitating procurement processes for over 60 annual programs and events hosted by multiple departments, clubs, and the Student Government Association.

The Administrative Assistant will staff the front desk at the Office of Residence Life and Housing, provide administrative assistance to Student Life Staff, and ensure effective handling of student concerns and complaints. Additionally, they will make calls to incoming residential students to aid with housing applications. Duties further include assisting with campus events, addressing various requests from student organizations, and maintaining records concerning move-ins and move-outs. The ideal candidate will be professional, customer service-oriented, and skilled in multitasking.

Job specifications include:
• Coordinate and manage housing assignments and occupancy records, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
• Supervise front desk operations, including scheduling, training, and providing guidance to student workers.
• Assist in procurement processes for more than 60 programs and events annually, coordinating with departments, clubs, and the Student Government Association.
• Provide administrative assistance to Student Life Staff, including scheduling meetings, preparing documents, and maintaining records.
• Handle student inquiries, concerns, and complaints effectively and in a timely manner, ensuring a high level of customer service.
• Conduct calls to incoming residential students to assist with housing applications and provide information about residence life policies and procedures.
• Aid in organizing and executing campus events, including logistical support, coordination with student organizations, and ensuring event success.
• Maintain accurate records related to student housing assignments, move-ins, move-outs, and other administrative data.
• Demonstrate professionalism and excellent customer service skills in all interactions with students, staff, and external parties.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
• Serve on the 24-hour on call model for residential students
• May be asked to drive campus shuttle for off campus events for students
• Chaperone student events
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
• Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience in administrative support
• Customer service experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic office technology

Additional Considerations

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field
• Prior experience in an administrative support role in a higher education or student affairs setting
• Experience with event planning and procurement processes
