Job Description:
As an AP/Payroll Accountant at Safe Food Alliance, you will utilize your accounting expertise to maintain the company’s expense processes and support the company’s revenue processes. The position is responsible for the semi-monthly payroll process, and daily accounts payable processing including weekly check runs, balance sheet reconciliations, monthly financial statement close activities, and assisting with the annual year-end audit. The role will have significant interaction with the Controller, the accounting team, and other operational stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Process semi-monthly payroll and all payroll-related activities.
- Process accounts payable invoices and expense reports for all entities promptly.
- Review purchase orders to validate receipt of purchased items.
- Apply accounting principles and departmental policies to ensure appropriate accounts, subaccounts, financial periods, and approvals are accurate and consistent.
- Responsible for office and seasonal supply orders.
- Review and reconcile vendor statements.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with new and existing vendors.
- Prepare weekly accounts payable check runs.
- Performs account reconciliations and assists in monthly closings and year-end audits.
- Maintains vendor records, obtains vendor W-9s, and insurance certificates, and prepares year-end 1099’s.
- Maintain laboratory inventory supply and fixed asset records.
- Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations related to payable accounts and other accounts as assigned.
- Completes Bank Reconciliation as assigned.
- Prepare filings for sales and use tax, property taxes, and business licenses.
- Support the accounts receivable functions through cross-training, backing up accounts receivable duties, and performing some accounts receivable duties.
- Assists with related special projects as required.
- Assists with other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
- Minimum three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong attention to detail is a must.
- Strong Excel skills.
