About You:Are you a Human Factors Researcher looking for an opportunity to guide advances in Human-Machine Teaming (HMT) for civil aviation? Merlin Labs is developing the cutting edge of autonomy for civil aviation driven by a deep commitment to developing advanced human-machine teaming on Part 23 and Part 25 aircraft.

The Role:

• Leverages their depth of knowledge in Human Factors and HMT to help define the roadmap for human-machine teaming for crew reduction on civil and military platforms.
• Guides the identification of key HMT research milestones and actions to achieve them.
• Defines HMT research opportunities to further the company human factors objectives and coordinate with universities, industry groups, and other entities to execute them.
• Works with the Merlin certification team and regulators to understand potential regulatory needs for novel interfaces and operations.
• Communicates with regulators in understanding new means of compliance demonstration for novel interfaces on aviation systems.
• Engages customers, operators, regulators, industry specialists, suppliers, and internal disciplines to identify and clarify current and future operational requirements to support equipment design throughout the design process. 
• Consults with Merlin’s civil and military programs to facilitate successful completion of human factors activities.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Engineering, Human Factors, or related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of experience conducting human factors research in aviation or a related domain.
• Demonstrated track record of publishing in human factors journals and/or conferences.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Bonus:

• Experience leading one or more human factors research programs.
• Experience designing an aviation system and/or certifying an aviation system.
• Operational experience in a technology-intensive, safety-critical environment
• Certified pilot.
