Summary:
This position directs the activities of Facilities Operations which is responsible for all university facilities maintenance and operations activities. This includes oversight of building, grounds, and vehicle maintenance; shuttle and support services; materials management; a Customer Response Center; and contract housekeeping services. The Director is expected to lead long range planning to improve facilities operating efficiency; short term planning for a variety of departmental activities and services; and ensure department commitments to service levels, schedules and priorities are met on time and within budget. This position is also responsible for communicating departmental policies, major activities and initiatives to the campus community and representing the department on university-wide committees and project teams.
Essential Functions:
Provide leadership to the department performing short range planning for various services and activities.
Performing long range planning for continuously improving service delivery and preparing for changes in university environment; supporting and participating in team-based, collaborative activities; assuring necessary processes and procedures are in place to accomplish the department mission; and working to provide needed resources; in order to align Facilities Operations activities with the university’s strategic goals.
Direct the day-to-day activities of the department.
Assures that department commitments to service levels, schedules, and priorities are met.
Gives general direction and aids department staff in: weekly planning, priority setting and problem resolution, in order to keep the staff focused on accomplishment of the department mission and vision.
Communicate department policies and major actions to the campus community.
Inform the campus about department services and plans.
Assure that processes are in place to receive campus input on services and needs.
Inform department staff of campus policies, events, and activities.
Serves on committees and represents the department at meetings as appropriate, in order to assure that Facilities Operations services are understood by the campus community and that every opportunity to improve existing services and add new services is examined.
Responsible for assuring budgetary goals are met.
Monitor budget performance, takes appropriate action and reports status to the assistant vice president in order to assure that: Facilities Operations administrative systems organize short- and long-term funding and scheduling of maintenance and renewal in order to keep interruptions in service and deferred maintenance to a minimum; that departmental resources are focused first on the accomplishment of the maintenance, operations , and renewal mission of the Department; that staff accountabilities are communicated; and that problems achieving agreed-upon goals within budget constraints are communicated in a timely and accurate manner.
Develop and update the Capital Renewal and Deferred Maintenance Program.
Commissions appropriate studies and systems in order to determine needs, and recommend priorities.
Prepare analyses and presentations, and executes approved projects in order to assure that university buildings are equipped with well-maintained systems and equipment designed to meet the current and future needs of our customers.
