About the role
This position plays a key role in the creation and delivery of the business strategy and financial roadmap, including the assessment of vulnerabilities and opportunities. The role partners with the Refining VP to help deliver the strategic financial roadmap and supporting any required interventions/insights where financial delivery risk emerges.
The role provides finance expertise into business decision-making to create and protect sustainable value for bp. It is accountable for supporting delivery of a strong financial and control framework, whilst driving financial performance.
The role is accountable for delivery of finance priorities at the Whiting refinery to enable it to meet its strategic and commercial objectives.
This role is crucial in ensuring the effective integration of the Embedded Finance and FBT organizations to support business objectives.
The role is required to collaborate across businesses and supporting functions to optimize and protect integrated value chains.
Key Accountabilities
- Finance Integration - Trusted advisor to the Whiting Refinery VP in support of business delivery (commercial, accounting, investment), providing finance expertise into business decision-making and performance management across strategic and operational imperatives.
- Performance – accountable for driving business performance in both economic and strategic terms including leading interventions where needed to ensure strategic objectives and financial outcomes are met.
- Control and Risk Management - accountable for supporting the maintenance of a robust control environment and support the identification and resolution of gaps.
- Simplification – support process transformation of our business by eliminating interfaces and duplications where possible, simplifying activities, embracing digital automation, and applying new digital skills to enable faster, more focused decision making.
- Leadership and Development – support development of required skills and capability across the Finance team to ensure business needs can be met sustainably in addition to developing future capability for the business group and finance overall.
- Deliver Finance Processes – provide leadership and assurance in delivery of core processes including GFO forecasts, monthly actuals, Solomon benchmarking study and Business Improvement Plans (BIPs).

Business Expertise
- Deep expertise across the Refining/Midstream landscape including, understanding of the key business drivers and emerging external landscape desired. Able to shape and influence the strategic direction of the site and influence key internal and external customers.
- Considerable experience in a commercial business with responsibilities covering commercial or financial management, leading performance management of a business and delivering change projects across the organization.
Leadership
- Drive strategic direction for finance in the sub-business and influence key collaborators with buy-in to that direction.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build capability, coach a diverse group of people and drive high performance.
- A passion for people leadership, inspiring and motivating people to deliver results, experience leading a geographically dispersed team is necessary. Develop future talent pools.
