YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

An Agronomic Research Specialist II is responsible for working with an internal team of plant breeding product development scientists, research scientists, and field operations teams to advise, execute and oversee the North America Plant Breeding’s Row Crop Research & Development efforts. Additionally, the role is responsible for continuous improvement and strategic initiative projects that transform the way row crop plant breeding research is conducted within the organization through the use of new equipment technologies, data analytics, and program management design.

 

This position is in Marshall, Missouri with the Research & Development group.

The primary responsibilities of this role, are to:

 

• Contribute to North America's Plant Breeding Research & Development pipeline by providing optimal trial management and delivering high-quality field data to scientists;
• Collaborate with project team members to deliver experimental protocols that enable advancement & placement decisions with the greatest potential to benefit customers;
• Utilize new technology and/or methodologies to improve overall plant breeding phenotyping such as the piloting and use of geospatial systems, agronomic planting & harvesting tools, harvesting shelling systems, and data capture applications;
• Implement unique & innovative technology solutions that are designed to improve research outcomes & operational success;
• Operate agricultural and/or research equipment, generate data, and manage data in accordance with internal IT systems;
• Organize and execute day-to-day priorities of the site, either independently or as the member of a small team such as: pre-season logistical trial planning, ensuring adherence with local and federal regulations, and in-season phenotyping activities;
• Drive a company vehicle. This may include being expected to frequently drive a pooled car as part of your job duties or being required to drive greater than 5,000 business miles annually;
• May be expected to operate company vehicles in a manner that falls under DOT/FMCSA jurisdiction. This would entail the hauling of trailers, products, supplies, or equipment ensuring safe operation in compliance with DOT regulations;
• Travel up to 15% of the time, particularly during peak seasons, with the potential for overnight or interstate travel;
• Occasionally work extended hours during peak seasons (including nontraditional evening or weekend hours);
• Collaborate with independent grower cooperators;
• Train team members and seasonal employees on standard operating procedures, site & operation safety guidelines, and equipment & tool operation;
• Participate in and adhere to safety trainings; inspections; policies and standard operating procedures;
• Comply with policies and procedures regulating experimental treatments and/or seed traits as established by local and federal governance;
• Engage in community relation activities including, but not limited to community volunteer efforts, sustainability activities, and local outreach;
• Serve as a technical representative to external parties in partnership with commercial, marketing, and other functions on agronomic topics such as product pipeline development, agronomy practices, and compliance standards.

Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree;
• Broad knowledge of row crop production practices and history of leveraging that knowledge in a research environment;
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn operation of agricultural or research equipment.
• Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative, team-based environment.
• Basic understanding of emerging trends in agriculture;
• Experience with MS Office, computer and software systems used in scientific data analysi
