Fabrication Quality Control Manager

About the role

The Senior Fabrication Quality Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and continuous improvement of the Quality Control Program within the fabrication facility. This position ensures that all fabricated products meet contractual requirements, customer specifications, company standards, ASME codes, applicable industry regulations, and quality objectives. The Senior Fabrication Quality Manager provides oversight of all inspection activities, quality personnel, documentation control, welding quality requirements, and customer quality interface activities while promoting a culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

Quality Management

  • Direct and manage all quality control activities for pipe, module, structural steel, and specialty fabrication projects.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME, AWS, API, ISO, client specifications, and contractual quality requirements.
  • Establish quality objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Lead internal quality audits and support external audits by clients, regulatory agencies, and third-party inspectors.
  • Monitor quality trends and implement corrective and preventive actions.

 

Inspection And Testing Oversight

  • Oversee all inspection activities, including:
    • Receiving inspection
    • In-process inspections
    • Final inspections
    • Dimensional verification
    • Welding inspections
    • Hydrostatic testing
    • Coating and preservation inspections
  • Ensure proper implementation of Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Verify compliance with approved welding procedures and quality standards.

 

Personnel Leadership

  • Lead and supervise QC Managers, QC Supervisors, Lead QC Technicians, Inspectors, NDE Coordinators, and Quality Administrators.
  • Recruit, mentor, train, and develop quality personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish employee development plans.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and professional growth within the department.

 

Welding and NDE Quality

  • Ensure qualification and compliance of:
    • Welders
    • Welding operators
    • Welding procedures
    • NDE personnel
  • Coordinate NDE activities including:
    • RT
    • UT
    • PT
    • MT
    • VT
  • Monitor weld rejection rates and implement improvement initiatives.

 

Customer and Project Support

  • Serve as the primary quality representative for customers, project teams, and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings, quality planning sessions, and client audits.
  • Resolve quality concerns and customer complaints.
  • Support project teams in developing quality execution plans.

 

Documentation Control

  • Oversee maintenance of quality records and turnover documentation.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of:
    • Material Test Reports (MTRs)
    • Weld maps
    • Inspection reports
    • NDE reports
    • Turnover packages
    • Redlined drawings
    • Manufacturing records
  • Ensure records are maintained in accordance with project and company requirements.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations.
  • Develop corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Monitor and report quality metrics.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rework and increase productivity.

 

Safety Leadership

  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in safety audits, investigations, and corrective action efforts.
  • Ensure quality personnel maintain compliance with all safety requirements.
  • Demonstrate leadership in creating a safe and productive work environment.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of quality control experience in industrial fabrication, piping, structural steel, or heavy industrial construction.
  • Minimum 5 years in a management or senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing quality personnel and large-scale fabrication projects.

Preferred Certifications

  • ASNT Level II or III
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • Certified Quality Manager (CQM)
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • ISO Internal Auditor Certification

 

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • ASME Section I, VIII, IX, B31.1, and B31.3
    • AWS welding codes
    • API standards
    • ISO quality systems
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding, NDE, materials, and quality docu
