About the role

A postdoctoral research position is available for bacteriophage engineering and cell free bacteriophage synthesis. The Sandoval laboratory in the Dept. of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Tulane University is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to help develop next generation tools at the intersection of bacteriophage engineering and cell free manufacturing as part of a multi-institution collaboration.

The postdoctoral researcher will play a central role in designing improved cell free bacteriophage manufacturing platforms for non-model phage & bacteria.

  • Bacteria and bacteriophage culturing and genetic engineering

  • Performing and optimizing cell free TXTL reactions

  • Identifying biological and biochemical bottlenecks limiting efficiency

  • Generating data to inform and implement iterative improvements in the DBTL cycle

  • Participating in early stage translational efforts

  • Aiding in the generation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

The role is full time on site in New Orleans, LA on the Tulane uptown campus.

Required

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Microbiology, Biomolecular Sciences, or related field

  • Strong experimental skills

  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written)

  • Hands-on experience with cell free transcription/translation reactions

Preferred

  • Experience with bioinformatic tools

  • Experience with DNA cloning techniques

  • Experience with bacteriophage cultivation and propagation
