Security Specialist

To qualify at the NQ-03 grade level, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the NQ-02 (GS-12) grade level. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience in a field of security that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of established and advanced security principles, procedures, and analytical techniques; as well as experience designing and conducting security surveys, self-assessments, and audits. Examples of specialized experience include: Planning, scheduling, and conducting projects and studies to evaluate and recommend ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of security programs. Analyzing and measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of management programs such as oversight of security topical areas and audit programs. To qualify at the NQ-04 grade level, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the NQ-03 (GS-14) grade level. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience that demonstrates the ability to independently manage, design, evaluate, and provide authoritative advice on complex, multi-functional security programs. Examples of specialized experience include: Providing strategic program leadership and expert advisory to diagnose systemic security risks. Managing complex high-visibility security self-assessments, vulnerability analyses and establish corrective action plans to mitigate security risks. Demonstrates leadership ability. Demonstrates ability to communicate with key stakeholders/director/executive level senior management. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
