Dometic Marine develops and manufactures a variety of market-leading electronic and mechatronic products for boating, OEM and aftermarket. The Digital Boat User Experience (DBUX) group is responsible for user interaction with products and connected systems through graphical user interfaces and synergistic features that enhance boat ownership.
The DBUX Software Engineering Manager leads a cross-functional software design and development team in delivering mobile applications, web applications (front and back end), and product firmware with exceptional user experiences.
Main responsibilities:
- Manage a team of full-stack software, mobile software, and embedded firmware developers through all phases of software and product lifecycles.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence in service to peers, customers, and end users.
- Ensure the team has the staff, tools, skills, and proficiencies necessary to achieve business goals.
- Continuously improve team performance through recruiting, training, mentoring, and performance reviews.
- Build self-organizing agile teams capable of continuously delivering user value with high velocity.
- Ensure software meets industry best practices and corporate standards for quality, safety, and security.
- Promote good documentation practices and ensure assets are maintained in appropriate repositories.
- Participate in user value project planning and goal setting with product managers and the UX architect.
- Communicate the need for technology infrastructure projects and set milestones to measure progress.
- Team with the Global Connectivity Manager and IT Managers/Directors to ensure marine needs are met in shared hosting, user account management, and cloud infrastructure.
- Team with the Marine Product Software Manager to plan DBUX contributions to embedded firmware applications and ensure DBUX meets firmware standards for quality and performance.
- Establish a quality assurance program that includes developer-level and user-level integration testing.
Qualifications and experience:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or other STEM degree with applicable experience.
- At least 5 years hands-on experience in full-stack, native mobile, C/C++, and/or Java development.
- At least 5 years experience managing, mentoring, and leading software engineering teams.
- Expert in software design, development, validation, and documentation.
- Proficient with agile methodologies and supervising self-organizing teams.
- Proficient in managing the activities of others and coaching to achieve optimum performance.
- Experience with version control systems such as GIT and work management systems such as Jira.
- Experience with MS Windows and MS Office tools.
Desired
- Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript and HTML5/CSS.
- Proficient in Node.js and REST API.
- Experience with AWS or Azure (AWS preferred).
- Experience working with UX designers and implementing UX designs.
- Experience with limited-resource hardware platforms that have embedded firmware.
- Experience with real-time operating systems and multi-threaded applications.
- Experience with physical product releases and seasonal launches.
- CSM or other PM certification is a plus.
