Safety Governance & Safety Design Guidelines Migration SME
Ford Motor CompanyAbout the role
We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?
The global Automotive Safety Office (ASO) is responsible for establishing policies, strategies and providing independent oversight to ensure vehicle compliance, enhance real world safety and protect the corporate reputation.
You will drive Ford’s safety strategy, exceeding regulatory requirements, as the subject matter expert for our Safety Design Guidelines (ensuring high real-world safety and customer satisfaction) and Public Domain Guidelines (promoting Ford brands via third-party ratings). This role also manages our safety governance, facilitating senior leadership forums and defining processes for the new Vehicle Program Safety & Regulatory Compliance team. We seek a candidate who effectively collaborates with ASO SMEs, Regional Experts, Safety Planning, Crash Safety, and other technical experts (e.g., Seats, Lighting, ADAS) to ensure a robust safety strategy is clearly communicated to program and engineering teams.
What you'll do...
- Single point of contact for our Safety Design Guidelines and Public Domain Guidelines, including strategy development & approval, document updates, and SharePoint site management.
- Facilitate ASO Director and E&SC VP-level Safety Governance forums.
- Coaching of program teams for obtaining approval for Technical Capability Assessment Papers and Conformance Plans per FAP03-196.
- Support the development of migration phase-in plans when new protocols are released, including updating the Panel 7 template within the Program Safety and Compliance Strategy.
- Coordinate ASO input and manage sign-off for the annual Integrated Report, including a summary of PDG ratings, highlighting new safety technologies, and communicating safety partnerships.
- Publication of the bi-annual Safety and Environmental Forecast letter, including a presentation in the Engineering Excellence forum to summarize recent regulatory changes to the PD community.
- As part of the newly established Vehicle Program Safety & Regulatory Compliance team, lead development of processes to ensure pre-production programs have a robust cascade and delivery of safety and compliance regulatory requirements that span across software, hardware, and features.
You'll have...
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related fields
Even better, you may have...
- Experience in Product Development (PD), Cycle Planning, and/or Brand/Marketing.
- Familiarity with Public Domain Guidelines (NCAP, IIHS, C-IASI).
- Strong basis of understanding of Ford’s processes (technology development, product development, design validation and verification, and vehicle operations).
- Positive problem-solving attitude and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to collaborate and connect cross-functionally to implement transformative process improvements.
- Strong communication and cross-functional networking skills.
- Strong decision-making skills and resolve to raise issues to the right people at the right time.
- Global understanding of Ford’s processes and products for technical read-across.
- Ability to critically evaluate data to make key decisions.
