As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll provide hands-on technical leadership to multiple scrum teams while supporting internal clients across ADP through our Engineering Excellence team. You’ll help design and scale next-gen solutions—applying your expertise in software engineering and artificial intelligence to solve complex business problems.

You’ll work across countries and business units to plan, build, and deliver impactful solutions using modern architectures and emerging technologies, including Generative AI. As the team’s go-to AI expert, you’ll guide when and how to apply AI to maximize value, drive innovation, and improve productivity.

To succeed, you should be passionate about using technology to solve real problems, comfortable recommending new tools, and eager to share knowledge across the enterprise. Experience with industry standards, APIs, and DevOps tools like Git, Jenkins, and Splunk will help you thrive in this role.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Here's what you can expect on a typical day in the life of a Principal Software Engineer at ADP.

• Guide teams in implementing best practices with GenAI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q), and champion the use of AI to enhance engineering workflows.
• Leverage advanced Generative AI techniques to accelerate development, improve code quality, and explore emerging capabilities.
• Promote prompt engineering best practices to use GenAI tools effectively
• Partner with business units across ADP to identify, pilot, and scale GenAI-driven solutions that support internal clients across the enterprise.
• Influence ADP’s GenAI roadmap by recommending tools, automations, and best practices, and evangelize adoption through workshops and knowledge sharing.
• Design and deliver proof-of-concepts and MVPs using GenAI to solve real-world business challenges while working on an Engineering Excellence team that spans the entire company.
• Lead the design and architecture of distributed, cloud-based applications supporting high-volume, time-sensitive compliance products.
• Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on technology trends, opportunities, and risks related to projects, including production support.
• Participate in and lead design and code reviews, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
• Mentor senior engineers and collaborate cross-functionally with Product Development teams to support and guide AI integration and technical leadership.

Qualifications

TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:

• You'll have a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a principal or technical leadership role.
• Proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale, cloud-based platforms
• Expertise in:
• AWS Cloud Services(EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Glue, etc.)
• Programming Languages: Java, Python
• Databases: PostgreSQL, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Oracle/DB2, MongoDB
• Microservices Architecture and API design
• Strong Understanding of Generative AI tools for development (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q, ChatGPT).
• Understanding of prompt engineering to effectively interact with AI assistants in software design, development, and troubleshooting.
• Excellent Technical leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
