Markel recruits highly-motivated, ambitious individuals to join our business development team.  The ABDS will be responsible for managing relationships and growing Markel business  with an assigned call cycle of existing agency relationships, and also to support the production efforts of our southeast region business development team.

This position will be based in our Regional office in Tampa, FL, with occasional travel to visit agencies within the region.

What you'll be doing:

• Execute on Markel’s business plan for assigned region; provide regular feedback on relationships, product, and marketplace
• Work with assigned agencies to keep Markel top of mind, maintain existing book of business, and write new business as opportunities are identified.  This will mainly be accomplished through outgoing phone calls to agents, with an in person visit to each agency approximately 1-2 times per year
• Work closely with Business Development Specialists to provide day-to-day support.  This may include, but is not limited to, agent onboarding and training (including system and appetite training), entering accounts into mPortal, quote follow-ups, goal setting and accountability with producers, learn and navigate small commercial marketplace in region, and agency terminations
• Prepare reporting on results to ensure business planning targets are met.
• Collaborate with business development team to plan and represent Markel at various conventions and events

What we are looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 1 year of insurance experience preferred;
• Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills;
• Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment;
• Ability to work independently and within a team;
• Ability to follow process and attention to details;
• Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
