Supervisor - Special Education Transportation

    

Job Description:

Oversees all operations of Special Needs Transportation including the support of new drivers, audits of 3rd parties, and compliance with State, Federal, and District policies and procedures. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and district clientele.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:
- Associates Degree or equivalent years of experience

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) years of work experience in similar field or administrative duties

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
- Supervise Special needs liaison
- Supervise Special Needs Coordinators
- Any support staff for Special Needs transportation

ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Mostly clean and comfortable

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasional lifting five (5) to ten (10) pounds
- Frequent sitting
- Occasional bending, squatting, or standing

    

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

    

Responsibilities:

Conduct quarterly audits of third-party carriers to ensure performance, compliance, and service quality.

Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and district regulations related to special education (SPED) transportation.

Attend, review and participate in IEP meetings for students as needed

Coordinate training for Transportation Educational Assistants (TEAs) and drivers who support SPED students.

Attend Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when applicable to provide transportation insight and support.

Complete CDE 40 reporting annually

Conduct quarterly audit of Special Needs 3rd Party carriers

Partner with district SPED leadership to support compliance, planning, and alignment with student needs.

Review ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) and third-party billing for accuracy and compliance.

Utilize conflict resolution skills to settle disputes

Develop and promote good community, vendor and parent relations 

Assist in managing behavioral interventions related to student transportation, in collaboration with SPED teams.

Work independently with vendors and other departments 

Oversee procurement and inventory of transportation supplies required for SPED students.

Provide support for Union and District meetings upon request

Monitor and manage budgets associated with third-party transportation contracts.

Provide direct supervision and leadership to staff assigned to the Special Needs Transportation program.

Maintain flexibility to work from various locations as needed in response to departmental or operational requirements.

Collaborate with third-party transportation providers to foster positive relationships with parents, schools, and students.

Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Special Needs Transportation program and the broader department mission.
