Job Description
We are adding a role to our Americas Commercial team, to support our Teacher Education list . You consider yourself a team player with a strong portfolio, stellar brand reputation, and many high-profile authors. Teacher Education is our largest program, delivering nearly 800 new books a year, with a backlist of over 10,000 titles. The program offers a one-stop shop for educators at every stage of their career, with high-quality content for all, from student teachers, classroom assistants, classroom teachers, and school leaders to further education/community college teachers, university professors, and academic researchers.
We publish across all Education sectors from Early Years, Primary, and Secondary Education to Higher Education and Lifelong Learning, as well as across all subdisciplines from Curriculum Studies, Education Policy, Education Psychology, Inclusion & Special Education to Multicultural Education, School Leadership, Open & Distance Learning, and Theory of Education.
As the Business Development Manager you will create new commercial partnerships in the North American Teacher Education market, from traditional distribution deals to licensing content. We're looking for an engaging, charismatic “hunter” who will help us grow our footprint and client base across the US and Canadian markets.
You will create new avenues for distribution to support our Teacher Education book content. These new partnerships will be found in teacher training companies, nonprofits, schools districts, and other specialty customers. You'll employ a consultative selling approach and understand how our products meet our customers’ needs and be required to manage current accounts and search out new customers and business opportunities on a regular basis. This role includes deal development, qualification, articulating value propositions to mid-level and top executives, establishing, and gaining agreement around terms, and closing the deal.
This a is mid-level opportunity and employee training will be provided, however, the ideal candidate will bring their own skill set for business and sales development.

What you'll be doing:
- Executing outreach initiatives, including email campaigns and cold calling, to Educational Training organizations to generate leads and secure meetings.
- Working closely with colleagues on the Commercial team to identify higher level distribution opportunities.
- Collaborating closely with Editorial, to develop new products and services for Teachers.
- Managing accounts and prospects by using CRM and data management tools.
- Managing sales activity, negotiate discounts, and provide follow through for all sales.
- Reporting sales for territory. Keeping an accurate and up to date log of all pending business using Salesforce.
- Providing detailed feedback regarding titles to editorial and marketing departments.
- Other tasks as assigned
