Repairs, modifies, and inspects highly complex and other patient care equipment including computer-based systems and related networks.  Provides technical assistance in the clinical setting; educating users of equipment; resolves hazard alerts and recalls, leads special projects relating to major installations of equipment, leads pre-purchase evaluations, oversees vendor services, and assists with budget preparations.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification

Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification through the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) within 12 months of starting in this position.

Requires a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, ability to be insured by CHHS carrier and personal liability insurance per policy.

Education (Experience can be substituted for education)

Associate’s degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Biomedical Equipment Technology

Experience (Education can be substituted for experience)

Requires 5 years of experience performing repairs, calibration, and inspection of highly complex medical equipment and systems including computer-based systems and related networks, leading special projects, and performing equipment evaluations.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, and apply to specific devices, brief technical procedures in order to properly and thoroughly carry out periodic equipment inspections with minimal supervision.

Ability to use test equipment, read and comprehend technical manuals and schematics, and proceed in a logical fashion in order to determine equipment problems

Demonstrates mechanical skill.

Manual dexterity and knowledge of techniques needed to perform mechanical and electrical repairs of equipment.

Good Interpersonal skills needed to communicate effectively with a variety of health care professionals.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Provides services in a setting where there is potential for exposure to blood and other high risk body fluids, chemotherapy agents, communicable disease and hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste.

Lift 20lbs frequently, 50lbs occasionally up to 100lbs

Ability to walk, occasionally lift heavy equipment and climb to ceiling height in the course of performing duties.

Performs services at offsite CHHS locations and outside fee for service customer locations.

Travel between CHW hospital sites for Clinical Engineering services is required as needed.  Use of personal vehicle as part of assigned technical duties may be required.
