At Virginia Disability Determination Services, we are committed to providing accurate, timely and cost-effective determinations for disability claims filed under the Disability Insurance Benefits (Title II), Supplemental Security Income (Title XVI), and Medicaid (Title XIX) programs of the Social Security Act.
Job Duties:
Disability Determination Services’ objective is to provide accurate, timely, efficient and cost- effective evaluations of medical and vocational evidence related to claims filed by citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia for benefits under Title II, Title XVI, and Title XIX of the Social Security Act. These evaluations result in the adjudication or “determination” of claims at the initial claims stage, at the continuing disability review stage, and at other appellate points in the disability process.
Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with the medical community and other professional organizations within a region of the State to ensure the completeness and timeliness of medical reports and the integrity of both the medical records and its provider in order to support disability claims filed under Title II, Title XVI, and Title XIX of the Social Security Act.
We are seeking a DDS Professional Relations Officer to serve as the lead technical expert for the region in the electronic transmission of medical evidence. Will meet the expectations of this position, the incumbent must have access to personally identifiable and confidential information about agency consumers and/or agency staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge/Experience:
- Considerable experience in adjudication of disability claims filed under the Social Security Act, as amended.
- Considerable knowledge of Social Security disability programs and extensive knowledge of medical body systems.
- Considerable knowledge of the laws regarding confidentiality and electronic transmission.
- Knowledge of a variety of hardware and software systems to be used for the electronic transmission of medical evidence.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively apply interviewing techniques with a diverse socio-economic population.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems.
- Demonstrated ability to organize a large volume of work and maintain strict timeframes, production, and quality goals.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate and explain program policy and procedures to others.
- Demonstrated ability to review and direct the work of others.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize position related computer applications, internal and external to the agency, to include data communications.
