Microsoft 365 Copilot is a groundbreaking productivity tool that leverages the power of large language models, user data, Microsoft Graph, and the web to drive unparalleled creativity and productivity. As an Applied Scientist/AI Engineer in the Office AI team, you work to enhance Office productivity with AI-driven experiences and services across key applications. The Office AI team is in the center of AI efforts across office and also works closely with Copilot efforts across the company. The Office AI team builds key components of Microsoft Copilot, combining the power of large language models with enterprise data and native integration with Office apps to streamline productivity, including content generation, navigation, comprehension and more.


As a Senior Software Engineer this role will focus on advancing scheduled prompt capabilities within Copilot chat and ensuring seamless integration with the Copilot chat experience. You will collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to design, implement the experience around event and time driven. This includes orchestrating prompt workflows, managing execution reliability, and aligning with Copilot’s conversational framework to deliver intelligent, timely interactions that enhance productivity across enterprise scenarios.

Responsibilities

  • Ship features with PM & Engineering. Co-own scenario goals; translate product requirements into scientific plans and productionized solutions that meet quality/latency/cost targets. 
  • Generative AI and advanced technologies.
  • Apply knowledge of generative AI, large language models, and modern frameworks to develop intelligent features and automation within the service. 
  • Azure platform integration.
  • Deploy, integrate, and manage AI powered solutions within the Azure ecosystem, ensuring security, scalability, and compliance with best practices.
  • Continuous learning and mentoring.
  • Stay current with advances in generative AI and software engineering. 
  • Invest time in learning new tools and frameworks, propose improvements to build processes, and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Serve as an expert for the rest of the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year experience with AI and machine learning, including hands-on experience in generative AI or machine learning frameworks, included but not limited to, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Hugging Face and understanding of LLM concepts, embeddings, and prompt engineering.
  • 4+ years experience with distributed systems and cloud technologies, including familiarity with Azure services, microservices architectures, and distributed storage systems.
  • 4+ years experience in designing and managing large-scale, fault-tolerant infrastructure, and implementing secure, compliant solutions.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR eq
