About You

This person will own the formulation process for personal care R&D formulation projects including developing overall project plan, phases, workstreams, activities, deliverables, timelines, and milestones for formulation development. The successful candidate will be a creative problem-solver, highly organized and proactive, as well as able to consider the big picture. The incumbent will work in the science team, more specifically in the formulation team, and interface with regulatory, quality, and product development. They will ensure exceptional in-house formulation of our personal care products across multiple personal care consumer product applications (scalp, hair, etc.) and will work closely with external formulation labs and CMOs. The candidate will be a formulation subject matter expert for personal care initiatives providing support across multiple departments at Nutrafol.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the formulation of Nutrafol personal care products from development through launch
•  Maintenance of formulation integrity during the entire product life cycle, in coordination with product development, QA/RA, and supply chain
• Act as the internal formulation expert for all topical and personal care new development projects and reformulations
• Develop proprietary formulations for skin/scalp and hair by determining optimal base functional ingredients and ideal active ingredient components for each product to meet target consumer experience, performance, and health benefits
• Work closely with formulation laboratories and contract manufacturers, discussing formula ideation, ingredients, manufacturing processes, pilot batches, and testing
• Work closely with raw material vendors to identify emerging ingredient technologies and whitespaces for innovation and co-development
• Identify and engage industry-leading and world class contract manufacturing organizations for scale up and commercialization of Nutrafol proprietary formulations
• Develop, manage, and drive the technical work streams for personal care new product development initiatives
• Identification of & coordination with contract research organizations, laboratories, and external partners for personal care product testing including safety, performance, and efficacy
• Lead technical point of contact for Nutrafol personal care contract manufacturers
• Communication of data, including preparation of presentations, scientific posters and manuscripts, for publication
• Work with patent attorneys to provide scientific content in drafting new patents for novel personal care formulations
• Track and manage progress on personal care formulation projects, managing timelines to ensure deadlines are met and roadblocks are solved for as necessary
• Create action plans for new projects generated by internal and external requests, including requests for proposals (RFPs) and/or statements of work (SOW)
• Communicate directly with various internal and external partners to understand, define, and communicate progress on projects
• Develop firm understanding of internal lab/company processes and databases
• Record keeping & data management for reports, NDAs/CDAs, supplier/external materials and internal presentations/data
• Tracking & keeping abreast of evolving personal care and cosmetics innovations
• Assist with the organization and tracking of prototype samples from contract manufacturers: receipt, retrieval and shipping as applicable

Requirements:

• Bachelor's and/or master’s degree; cosmetic chemistry or similar field preferred
• 5-10 years experience in cosmetic personal care formulation role(s)
