The Role
We are looking for experienced and motivated candidate for a Principal Software Engineer in the Engineering department. This position involves being part of a dynamic team environment responsible for designing, developing, and supporting software solutions to meet business requirements in the area Consumer and SMB go-to-market channels.
Specific Objectives and Responsibilities
Your First Six Months:
Get a “lay of the land:” gain familiarity with Carbonite culture and organization.
Build a solid understanding of the engineering team code base, technical infrastructure, and development practices.
Participate in the team’s Scrum development process.
Begin to take technical leadership in areas where it is needed
Six to Twelve Months and Beyond:
Actively contribute to features to maintain the stability and functionality of the Netsuite systems and any third party integrations between Netsuite and the Ecom and Cyan systems
Work closely with both developers and testers in an integrated team to meet customer expectations and supports the business's goals
Bring a fresh perspective to the table and make meaningful suggestions for increasing the quality of our integrations, technical infrastructure and architecture.
Drive the continued development and production of other team members by proposing any upgrades and updates necessary for keeping up with modern security and development best practices
Key Challenges to Overcome
You will be a member of a team of developers working with many technologies. To be successful you will have to be collaborative and work with others. You also must be willing to adapt to changing conditions, as the work that enters this team is fluid and often requires changes of direction to meet the business needs. As a principal software engineer you will be looked upon for guidance and mentorship of more junior developers.
Success Factors

- A track record of good judgment and decision-making in positions with significant responsibility
- Experience with technical leadership of junior to mid-level developers
- Highly autonomous and able to independently identify high value projects and drive them completion
- Demonstrated leadership capability in cross-functional team environments
- High degree of comfort with complex technical environments
- Having and being able to articulate/defend an informed opinion on important topics
Skills & Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree, College diploma or equivalent experience
- Highly proficient with the Netsuite application and its internal systems
- 8+ years of experience with Salesforce
- Understanding of integrations between CRM and ERB systems
- Ability to write efficient, secure, well-documented work
- Familiarity with automated JavaScript testing, specifically testing frameworks such as Jest or Mocha
- Experience designing for high availability, scalability and low latency
- Easily works collaboratively and is keen to take ownership of projects and mentor more junior team members
