Job Description

How you will contribute…

Reporting to the Global Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Vice President of R&D is responsible to ensure that the pre-clinical research strategy and portfolio supports the business and financial objectives of Sirtex.

This includes oversight and implementation of product development projects as well as evaluating and resolving technical feasibility, design optimization, and pre-production issues. Researches and monitors the field to identify possible technology enhancements.  Works with other departments to establish a design, technology, product development, and vendor strategy. Manages project budgets and prepares financial analysis reports for top management. Under the supervision of the CMO, establish operational policies for R&D, ensuring that policies are consistent with regulatory requirements and industry and company standards, and monitors engineering activities to ensure compliance with these policies. Works closely with legal (IP) counsel to develop comprehensive IP strategy and implements the strategy. 

The successful candidate is a hands-on leader with experience in the healthcare space who can build and lead a high-performing team. They will build and scale systems, processes, capabilities, and structures to drive product development, technical rigor, customer centricity and external focus and partnerships where needed.

The main responsibilities are:

  1. Manage product development process, including product and technology roadmaps, execution, budgeting, resource planning, process development, technology transfer, vendor partnerships and metrics.
  2. Ensure timely and robust delivery of the product development portfolio, driving execution across functions.
  3. Manage creation and maintenance of design documentation including full range of specifications, engineering drawings, test protocols and test reports.
  4. Manage projects involving consultants and outside vendors to ensure timely and quality completion of projects.
  5. Provide leadership required for planning and implementation of projects to develop and qualify new products, and/or new processes for manufacturing new products or for improving existing processes according to business plan objectives. Handle budgetary responsibility for these projects.
  6. Manage activities associated with validation and qualification of product which may include development of appropriate procedures for justification of project and training.
  7. Manage capital and operating budgets ensuring pipeline delivery.  Plans project schedules, expenditures, attends meetings, and prepares reports as required, ensuring effective communication of ideas, information, and issues to appropriate stakeholders.
  8. Assigns, delegates, and assists in the completion of projects and serves as mentor to engineers.
  9. Participates in project performance team meetings on behalf of R&D to provide ideas, methods, or processes for company performance improvement.
  10. Collaborates cross-functionally with other functions and teams as needed to ensure effective and compliant commercialization of new products.

  • Team development: Able to attract, develop, and retain a strong technical team. Provides guidance and fosters professional development and growth of direct reports.
  • Directs, through line and matrix management, multiple functions, and therapeutic areas within R&D.
  • Is responsible for the overall organizational morale, team effectiveness and talent management.
