JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Under the direction of the Director of Operations, Technology and Business Development, the Simulation Technologist is responsible for the maintenance and setup of simulation equipment in the simulation center.  This position provides technical skills to support the use of simulation in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.  This position also operates audio/visual systems.

  1. Assures that the facility and equipment are set up for the appropriate simulation event.
  2. Provides assistance with the creation or alteration of equipment for simulation events (moulage, bandaging, etc.). 
  3. Prepares rooms by arranging and cleaning for various simulations. 
  4. Delivers simulations to Simulation Specialists, Operations Lead, and course directors.
  5. Maintains equipment inventory and maintenance records. 
  6. Schedules maintenance as appropriate to minimize disruption to the simulation event calendar.
  7. Troubleshoots immediate issues with simulation equipment and all other equipment used in relation to the simulations. 
  8. Provides routine maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning of all simulation equipment.
  9. Maintains current knowledge of simulation equipment (status, location, etc.) and operation manuals.  
  10. Expands the field of healthcare simulation and UT Health Science Center’s visibility by networking and collaborating with technicians at peer healthcare simulation programs.
  11. Serves as an ambassador of UTHSC simulation program at local and regional simulation meetings/conferences.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

EDUCATION: Associate’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of experience performing comparable duties and responsibilities described above; OR a combination of education and related work experience to equal four (4) years. (Experience working in healthcare simulation programs preferred.)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to think critically, have decisive judgment and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to a dynamic schedule.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work as a member of a team.
  • Skill at assessing and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions promptly. 

WORK SCHEDULE:  This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
