Minimum of 3-12 hour shifts per 4 week schedule, both 7am - 7:30pm and 7pm - 7:30am required, 1 weekend shift required

Unit Summary:

The Family Birth Center serves our growing families with a 7 bed triage and 2 bed antenatal testing area, 15 bed labor/delivery/recovery rooms offering a combination of showers or Jacuzzi tubs, 1 natural birthing suite with Jacuzzi tub, 10 bed antepartum unit, 3 operating rooms, and a 3 bed recovery room.  We care for low and high risk antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients in a family centered environment.  Our nurses are certified in External Fetal Monitoring and are also trained in Neonatal Resuscitation.  Our goal is to assist the childbearing family with the support and skills they need on their journey through labor, childbirth, and early parenting.

Scope of work

Under supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches and sitz baths or pericare.

Qualifications 

• Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing. May be enrolled in an (accredited) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program.

• Note: ADN graduates will required to sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire/placement in a graduate nurse position.

• RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure (or) Graduate Nurse from accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam.

• Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire and may be requested for review periodically.

• Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations – theory and clinical.

• Requires current BLS certification.
