Security Officer - Campus Access Control

Barbier Security Group (BSG) is a rapidly growing Bay Area based security services company. Founded in 2007 Barbier Security Group has been tasked with providing custom protective security programs for individuals, government organizations and private companies.

We are currently seeking qualified Security Officer for an Access Control position at a prestigious private University in Oakland. This position is staffed twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. The team is directly responsible for the accurate documentation of routine and unusual events occurring on or near the facilities and maintains control of all equipment and keys in the Control Room. Officers will be cross-trained to work a schedule assigned to a specific post and/or Dispatch throughout the week. They will be monitoring all security, communications, and fire/life safety systems, and be the liaison between campus personnel, students, law enforcement, and BSG management These Officers will be a reliable and knowledgeable resource in various situations for school personnel, students, and the public, and will be utilized for receiving and providing information, ensuring notifications on campus safety, policies, and protocols.

This team must provide integrity always professional interactions that promote safety to, and confidence from, the people that encompass the property.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Possess a current California Guard Card License.
• A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are required for applicable sites.
• Reliable transportation is necessary.
• Proficient in basic computer and smartphone usage.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write in English to create accurate reports; additional language skills are a plus.
• Strong listening skills, patience, and compassion, particularly when interacting with community members experiencing emotional or psychological challenges.
• Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, think critically, de-escalate conflicts, and communicate effectively.
• Maintain a positive, professional demeanor in adherence to all laws, regulations, company policies, and confidentiality standards.
• Ensure compliance with both company and client policies and procedures while being open to performance improvement.
• Possess a clear understanding of emergency response procedures and protocols.
• At least one year of experience in security, mobile patrol, or event staff roles.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires specific physical abilities to ensure the Security Guard can effectively perform essential job duties. The candidate must be able to:

• Stand or Walk for Extended Periods: Ability to stand and walk for long shifts, often for several hours at a time, including traversing outdoor areas with uneven surfaces, without significant physical strain.
• Climb Stairs: Regularly climb stairs and navigate multi-level buildings to perform patrols and check all areas.
• Lift and Carry: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to move or secure equipment, and assist with other duties as necessary.
• Physical Endurance: Ability to withstand various weather conditions during outdoor patrols, including hot, cold, rainy, or windy weather.
• Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle and operate security equipment, such as radios, keys, and locks.
• Run or Move Quickly: Ability to sprint short distances if needed to respond quickly to emergencies or incidents.
