About the role

Printpack, a leading manufacturer of flexible packaging products is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Finishing Lead for the Converting plant in Grand Prairie, TX.  The successful candidate will have computer skills, ability to work independently, a customer service orientation, high detail orientation, good decision-making skills, be flexible, be self-motivated/directed, and be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form. This will be a 3/2 rotating night shift schedule from 7pm-7am: Sun/Wed/Thurs; Mon/Tues/Fri/Sat.

Additional $2.50/hr premium for NIGHT Shift only between the hours of 7pm-7am. Any hours worked outside of 7pm-7am will not receive the premium.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Finishing experience is preferred

  • Supervision experience preferred.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

  • Strong computer skills, good listening and reading skills with high retention

  • Ability to prioritize and balance workload

  • Positive attitude and ability to easily adapt to varying work challenge

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides floor leadership to the Finishing department.

  • Assist in managing production reporting.

  • Operate Finishing lines in order to:

    • Ensure safety

    • Perform to quality, waste, and production standards and goals

    • Meet or exceed the customers (both internal and external) expectations

    • Meet the highest of quality standards

    • Communicate orally and/or in writing to other departments for resolution of mechanical problems, reporting defective material, coordination of job preparations, changeovers and daily shift information 

    • Report production accurately and timely through PIMS to include waste, WIP, time codes, raw materials, etc.

    • Ensure the training of assistant on essential job functions

  • Manage the duties of an operator, including but not limited to:

    • Prepare master rolls for slitting

    • Place rolls in machine and prepare for splicing

    • Properly segregate and label all materials (as appropriate) – for work-in process, rewinds, trash, and hold)

    • Assist in removing rolls from rewind (as necessary)

    • Remove and weigh startup rolls/materials at beginning of job

    • Perform daily housekeeping duties to keep area clean and organized during setup, run and end of shift

    • Remove and weigh all waste

    • Keep trash waste separated from recycle materials

    • Properly store all unused equipment

  • Ensure your own safety while operating the machine and that of those assisting with operations
