About the role

The Senior Process Engineer - Software Integration position is responsible for working closely with KPI OPTO Software Architects, Key Vendors Technical Teams & End User Client Technical & Operational Teams to develop efficient Systems Interface & Integration strategies and the corresponding technical documentation that defines these strategies. They will focus on defining the technical software interface & integration requirements between our Vendors Systems, KPI OPTO Software / Controls Systems & Client Endpoint ERP/WMS Host Systems.

This position will work closely with the KPI Software Solutions Team, KPI Systems Integration Team, KPI Systems Integration Process Engineers and Project Managers to properly define, document & illustrate our technological solutions to fit our customers’ needs. This role will require strong interpersonal and communication skills with enhanced multi-tasking abilities. The ideal candidate will have significant Software/Controls & Technical Writing previous experience in the Material Handling and Automation Industries.

This position will also be responsible for leading the appropriate KPI cross functional teams & workshops required to develop the required Description of Operations Documents (Execution DOO) & Functional Specifications Documents (FSD) as well as executing a high degree of Quality Assurance across these efforts. These workshops will include KPI Cross Functional Teams and Key Vendor & Client Technical Teams and culminate in KPI, Client & Vendor Signoff of these documents.

This position will be provided extensive training by KPI Software & Controls Architects and by other key vendors so that they will eventually be able to take the lead Software Integration Analyst responsibilities for key KPI Software & Controls Integration Projects. This position will also be heavily involved with various KPI cross functional departments in executing continuous process improvement efforts focusing on establishing Industry Best standards for material handling system interfaces & equipment, IT network solutions designs, software systems, hardware systems as well as controls systems.

1. Coordinate the development of Description of Operation (DOO) and Functional Specification Design (FSD) documents that clearly and accurately define the Material Flows, Functional & Technical specifics for Software & Controls solutions supporting the integration of material handling equipment such as autonomous mobile robots (AMR), robotics, conveyor systems, ASRS systems, AutoStore, and various other equipment interfaces.

2. Develop comprehensive documentation that meets KPI cross functional organizational standards as they continuously evolve.

3. Obtain a deep understanding of products and services to translate complex technical information into simple, polished, and engaging content.

4. Develop and maintain detailed documentation repositories & tool set references of appropriate reference materials and design specifications for rapid utilization and deployment.

5. Evaluate current content and develop innovative approaches for improvement.

6. Synthesize complex material into structured, readable, and easily referenceable documentation.

7. Collaborate with multiple stakeholders and SMEs to ensure maximum content applicability.

8. Working closely with KPI & Vendor Software documentation resources to incorporate their System Design Documents and relevant details into the KPI DOO & FSD documents.

9. Provide support and guidance for software & controls solution integration between warehouse execution/control systems, vendor technologies and systems and Client Host Systems.

10. Travel expectations are approximately 20%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in related Software, Controls, Engineering or Technical field.
  • 7-10+ years technical working experience with material handling systems and/or equipment with most of this experience being focused on Software / Controls Integration activities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Must possess excellent problem-solving, technical writing and Systems Integration analytical skills and be able to translate business and technical requirements into workable technical solutions that are clearly defined.
  • Must possess strong communications skills with an ability to communicate directly with numerous / simultaneous technical team members and executive management team members.
  • Must possess the ability to manage multiple timelines and complete tasks quickly within the constraints of timelines and budgets.
  • Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on effective oral and written communication.
