Position Specific Description

This position is in the Environmental Licensing & Permitting Section of the Corporate Environmental Services Department supporting early-stage project development for NextEra Energy Resources and other NextEra Energy affiliates.


The position allows you to use your environmental knowledge and skills to help evaluate and acquire permits for renewable energy projects.  You will advise multidisciplinary teams on environmental site constraints and permitting strategies to facilitate development of a broad range of energy projects including wind and solar; energy storage such as batteries, hydrogen, and hydro; as well as transmission lines.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Conducting site visits to verify the presence and extent of potential Waters of the U.S.(WOTUS).
  • Working closely with late-stage environmental specialists and project managers, site prospecting, and development teams to search out and evaluate potential project sites as well as complete early-stage federal, state, and local environmental licensing and permitting throughout the Southeast but with a focus on Georgia.
  • Experience evaluating potential WOTUS including disturbed sites with complex wetlands scenarios such as timbered wetlands and prior converted croplands for renewable projects and reviewing potential Waters of the U.S. technical reports.
  • Applying for and supporting permits from land use agencies at the county, state, and federal levels.
  • Solid track record of coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) district offices in the region. A well-rounded understanding of associated environmental regulations such as Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and National Historic Preservation Act are important for this role.
  • Relevant energy infrastructure or other land development project experience with the ability to work collaboratively to support multiple projects with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues.
  • Willing to travel to remote sites with required off-road vehicle access and/or hiking to complete site evaluations. 
  • Field mapping and GIS skills are necessary to successfully execute this position.
  • Maintain current knowledge of pertinent national and state-level environmental policies and regulations, effectively interface with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to assist in resolving complex environmental matters.
  • Maintain good working relationships with local agency staff and Non-Governmental Organizations working in the vicinity.

 

The position requires working from the Juno Beach office or remotely in Georgia.
