The Boeing CompanyThe Boeing Space & Mission Systems MILSATCOM Program is seeking a Ground Chief Engineer to provide leadership in the development of our nation’s next generation of satellite ground systems in El Segundo, CA.
This position is for Ground Engineer who enjoys being a leader; being responsible and accountable for the technical excellence and integrity of the ground design, development, production, supportability and mission success. We seek candidates who have advanced skills in engineering and want to bring their skills to the next level through mentoring and hands-on development which include establishing a culture of proactive technical oversight, risk management and rapid issue resolution, providing alternative paths for issue resolution and opening dialogue on technical issues. The CE shall regularly assess the baseline program technical execution plan against technology, complexity and risk adjusted benchmarks of similar engineering efforts. The CE is responsible for preventing traveled technical risk and ensuring that technical risks/issues are driven rapidly to closure.
We seek candidates with interest and skills in the following areas:
Ground system engineering, integration and test, and formal qualification
Candidate should possess excellent communications skills to participate in requirements, architecture reviews, have a thorough understanding of version control and system quality attributes, such as testability, portability and maintainability, and enjoy a self-driven and collaborative development approach.
Must be able to interact well with System Engineers/Analysts/Software developers as well as other members of the Integrated Product Team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in presenting at program major reviews to leadership and customers as well as lead the technical reviews and trade studies of all level of ground system design.
As a member of the MILSATCOM Program Team, you'll be accountable for technical excellence and integrity of the ground system. Your team will work closely with customer on requirement generation, development the ground Command and Control (C2) system, then develop, execute, and document test plans, procedures, and reports of the ground system and systems from single components to larger functional systems. The MILSATCOM Program Team offers a collaborative causal, but professional mentoring environment with long-term potential for career growth into technical and management positions.
Position Responsibilities:
Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture
Leads analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success
Leads, develops designs and conducts research that results in new requirements management methodologies or result in unique approaches that mitigate assessment/review findings
Creates and implements strategic approaches for program and business area decisions
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience)
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
Experience in writing requirements of the ground systems
Experience in verification and test of the ground systems
Experience in change control board and engineering review board
Experience in risk management and trade studies
Required Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
Experience in MILSATCOM ground processes, risk management, Change Control Board (CCB), Engineering Review Board (ERB), ground system development and integration and test (I&T) at least 20 years
Strong Communication, Adaptability, Decision Making, Customer Focus, Risk Management, Trade Studies, Integrated Systems, Engineering Analysis, and Requirements/Tracing skillset
Familiarity with change control process, technical trade studies, and risk management process
