About this Role

TRAVEL POSITION - Robinson Brothers Construction, LLC is seeking skilled Walkout Technician to join our TRAVELING crew.

Our contracts span the Pacific Northwest and the West Coast, encompassing the western states.

 

We are looking for talented individuals who are enthusiastic and ready to travel to various job sites. 

As part of your role, travel is expected and required. This is a field position, and you will be responsible for working at various sites as necessary, including locations in multiple states.

 

Job Summary-

The Walk Out Technician is responsible for conducting detailed field assessments for both underground and aerial utility installations. This role involves route planning, documentation, and coordination with design and construction teams to ensure accurate and efficient utility placement. The ideal candidate will have experience with both underground and aerial utility systems and be comfortable working in diverse field environments.

 

What You'll Do

Underground Utility Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field walkouts to assess and document existing site conditions for underground utility installations (e.g., water, sewer, gas, electric, telecom).
  • Identify and mark proposed underground utility routes using GPS, maps, and field notes.
  • Take detailed measurements, photographs, and notes to support design and permitting processes.
  • Identify potential conflicts with existing infrastructure and recommend alternative routing solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding underground utilities.

Aerial Utility Responsibilities:

  • Survey and document existing aerial infrastructure including utility poles, strand, and overhead lines.
  • Measure pole heights, span lengths, clearances, and attachment points.
  • Identify make-ready work requirements such as pole replacements, relocations, or clearance violations.
  • Assess pole loading and spacing to ensure compliance with NESC and local standards.
  • Coordinate with utility pole owners and joint-use partners for attachment approvals and permitting.

General Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with property owners, municipalities, and utility companies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all field data and reports.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and construction teams to ensure accurate utility placement.
  • Use GIS, GPS, and mobile data collection tools to document field findings.

What You'll Bring

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Technical degree preferred).
  • 1–3 years of experience in utility walkouts, surveying, or construction inspection.
  • Familiarity with utility maps, construction drawings, and GIS/GPS tools.
  • Knowledge of both underground and aerial utility systems and construction practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and walk long distances.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with CAD software or utility design platforms.
  • Knowledge of NESC standards and aerial permitting processes.
  • OSHA safety certification or equivalent.
