Job Description

General Summary

Under limited supervision, supervises and manages the daily operations and pharmacy personnel of the Home Infusion Pharmacy Services. Assists in developing and implementing department-specific goals and objectives to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of Home Infusion Operations. Assists in implementing goals and objectives as they apply to the mission of the system pharmacy enterprise for quality pharmaceutical care services.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

1. Manages daily operations of Home Infusion Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians with respect to the goals and objectives of Home Infusion Services in collaboration with the Director of Home Infusion Services and in accordance with generally accepted pharmacy practice.

2. Reviews department performance, effects changes in collaboration with the Director of Home Infusion Services to improve services provided and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Participates actively in the development, planning and execution of goals and objectives of the department. Leads planning and implementation of new departmental programmatic or technological initiatives.

A. In consultation with the Department’s assigned Timekeeper, develops work schedules and assigns staff to specific areas of responsibilities.

B. Hires, evaluates work performance, disciplines and fires, if necessary, subordinate staff in accordance with established health system’s personnel policies and procedures. Develops and maintains job descriptions.

C. Develops and maintains standards of performance, orientation, training programs, and tools to convey information to ensure understanding. Works to develop competency programs to measure performance.

D. Assists Clinical Pharmacists as needed in the performance of their duties by providing technical guidance and direction, as needed.

3. Performs various leadership, administrative, and managerial duties, as follows: Acts in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the department and pharmacy system enterprise. Maintains established departmental, state, federal and local laws, policies and procedures and generally accepted pharmacy practices.

A. Ensures appropriate quality of inventory management for essential drugs and pharmaceuticals to meet the needs of the assigned patient population. Responsible for the arrangement of stock for easy accessibility, efficiency of operation, and compliance to quality standards for proper storage. Supervises the proper storage and security of controlled substances. Periodically checks and removes all outdated items from stock.

B. Ensures appropriate financial operations and controls. Maintains records/statements for financial reporting and for balancing account. Assists in departmental fiscal matters, in

conjunction with the Director of Home Infusion Services, develops and manages departmental operating budget and ensures department operates within allocated funds.

C. Utilizes information systems and data retrieval methods to support decision-making relative to work planning and patient care.

D. Coordinates all drug recall procedures for the assigned area in accordance with departmental policy and procedures.

E. Remains up-to-date on insurance plan/coverage changes. Ensures that computer system reflects the required insurance plan/coverage changes and collects appropriate co-pays.
