Overview:

ASED and its legacy engineering support and services contracts has been serving as a prime contractor for NASA MSFC since 1989. ASED clients are the Space Launch System (SLS) Program, International Space Station (ISS) Program, Gateway Program, Human Exploration Development and Operations (HEDO), space optics fabrication, earth and space sciences and advanced propulsion system development. As a partner with NASA for space exploration our impact is history in the making. 

The Senior Systems Engineer will provide support to the Space Launch System (SLS) Stages Element for Core Stage manufacturing and operations at the Michoud Assembly Facility (MA) and Kennedy Space Center (KSC), as well as support Artemis pre-flight and post-flight performance assessments and issue resolution. The engineer will work closely with Stage’s Core Stage Manager, End Item Owners, Manufacturing and Production Manager, Stage’s Chief Engineer, and the Safety and Mission Assurance team.

This position will provide expertise in the design development, qualification, production, and flight of the Core Stage, ensuring the integration of technical, schedule, and safety elements that support critical Program milestones.

Support includes participation in integration teams, resolution of pre-and post-flight issues, planning and factory flow optimization, and contract technical evaluations. The role involves extensive coordination with contractors, other NASA centers, and key stakeholders across the SLS program. 

Responsibilities:

Systems Engineering and Integration technical support includes:

  • Leading coordination and planning of manufacturing, production, and integration of the Core Stage through the final assembly test and checkout process.
  • Supporting Human-in-the-Loop studies and pre/post-flight assessment to inform design trades for future vehicle configurations.
  • Supporting contract modifications, technical directives, and contractor performance evaluations.
  • Participating in and supporting resolution of critical design problems and development of technical recommendations for vehicle design and operations.
  • Supporting SLS Level II activities including Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), Core Stage verification objectives, and certification reviews.
