The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Capital Project Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Your primary role will be leading capital projects at the 3M Center and surrounding areas supporting the campus facilities group, and R&D (all businesses including corporate R&D labs). Additionally, there will be active efforts to provide mentoring development towards large capital project leadership and/or general leadership per the interests and talent of the candidates. Candidates who excel in this role and team excel at working with all personalities and levels within the organization. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Leads capital engineering projects that support Growth, Cost Reduction, EHS improvement, and Equipment/Facility Renewal.
  • Works with cross-functional team including electrical, facilities, design, technical experts, and operations to deliver project expectations.
  • Utilizes project engineering fundamentals (scope, budget, schedule, forecasting, communication, financial analysis) to deliver the best outcome for 3M.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree/Technical Diploma or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institute and at least Five (5) years of combined experience engineering, manufacturing, and/or project management in a private, public, government or military environment.

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution and Three (3) year of experience in engineering, manufacturing, and/or project management in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Possess expertise equivalent to that which would be obtained in a bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical, mechanical, industrial or electrical engineering
  • Prior experience with manufacturing equipment
  • Prior experience with automation, extrusion, material handling, or inspection equipment
  • Skills include good communication (written and verbal) skills

Travel: May include up to 5%
